Josephine Baker
Josephine Baker was born in St Louis, Missouri and was a fantastic lady. Overcoming the limitations imposed by her colour in the United States during the 1930's, she became one of the world's most versatile entertainers on stage, screen and as a recording artist. Josephine spent a lot of time in France and was decorated for her undercover work for the French Resistance during World War II. She was a great civil rights activist, and she refused to perform for segrated audiences. She adopted twelve children from around the world whom she called her "Rainbow Tribe" After a large party held in her honour in 1975 she died in her sleep. ends........
