An Antique Shop in Paris - 23 May 2006

This skeleton was for sale in the window of an Antique Showroom near to the Louvre. There was also the skeleton of a dog, but my shot of him was obscured by the flash from the window. Nice for the Salon ! Posted by Picasa

Diana and " The Count "

This car was my fourth car, purchased for £30 when I was in the Royal Navy circa 1957. A 1931 Austin Six 1 - 6 cylinder 2 seater with a " dickey seat " in the boot and a bench seat up front, with a gear lever knob the size of a cricket ball. It had a huge double fender or bumper at the front and a spare wheel in the offside running board. This photograph was taken on Good Friday at the annual marbles championships.

The body was coachbuilt with a fabric covered roof, and the car was very heavy so the performance was not brilliant, it also had cable brakes and so it would have been very dangerous to insist on your right of way when I approached a zebra crossing, and luckily nobody ever did.

MY BIG DOODLE

This is my scribbles over many years on one page, and if you ask me what it means .......well I suppose it is random thoughts, aspirations, plans, hopes, wishes etc etc and if you have to define it then it is almost impossible.... Really it is just me ! Posted by Picasa

MOTHER, BABY AND CHILD

Rubber Balls

These balls have mainly been extracted from people's ears ! I f you have hearing problems or a pain in your ears, well it may be that you have a ball or balls there. I can manage to extract these ( and this is the Truth ) and this photograph proves this to be a fact. And they look lovely. Posted by Picasa

Facts, Truth, Lies and Fiction

FACT

The Shorter OED (2 Volumes) says...... A thing done or performed (1815).... something that has really occured ( as distinct from conclusions ) (1632).....Truth; reality (1581)..... Legal meaning = The circumstances and incidents of a case, as distinct from their legal bearing (1718.)

So it seems that Truth and Fact come together, but when swearing in court we say ...The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, yet not long ago a diplomat giving evidence admitted that " he had been economical with the truth" how does this square with the main definition of a fact above and truth below ?

TRUTH

The OED says........ Conformity with fact; agreement with reality; accuracy; correctness (of statement or thought) 1570 ; Genuineness

LIES

The OED says........To speak falsely.....To convey a false impression.....To be deceptive.

My case is that we all lie most of the time, often without realising it, we are economical with the truth!
Also although it may be a fact that something has occured, the truth behind that occurance as to how, why, and by whom is often far from certain. And as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so truth can have many variations for different people.

FICTION

OED says........Invention as opposed to fact......Fictitious composition now mainly novels and stories.....A supposition known to be at variance with fact.

CONCLUSION

Some facts are certain, but there are many versions of the truth, most people lie most of the time, even if the lies are "white", and though fiction may be invented, it is often based on facts.

So what does any of that prove? Lovely picture though .....See below " TRUTH "

TRUTH

TRUTH

This painting " Truth " is by Jules Joseph Lefebvre and dates from 1870 and is in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, and if this is a representation of truth I like it!

The Empire State Building - NYC

Click here for the Empire State site - 75 years old - May 1931 to May 2006

If you click the above you will access the New York Times website, and try playing the video on the 75th Anniversary of the Empire State Building, which is now the largest skyscraper in New York, and by far the most impressive. The building was constructed in 13 months ( without overtime ) during the depression which followed the stock market crash of 1929.

Enjoy the experience ! MHK 03.05.2006 ( Charlie's Birthday - Happy Birthday Charlie )
